Is it safe to upload images for AI analysis?

Images, playlists and social screenshots can contain identity, relationship and location clues. Know the processing and deletion boundaries before uploading.

Images can carry more identity than expected

Screenshots may expose usernames, faces, conversation partners, locations, timestamps and metadata. Crop unnecessary identity information and confirm you have permission to submit the material.

AI analysis is usually not on-device

A Web service receives material on its server and may call a configured third-party AI provider. “AI analysis” should not be understood as fully offline or zero-retention.

Four questions to ask

Who can access the original file? How long is it kept? Which copies are removed when an account is deleted? Can a processor handle it across borders? If the page does not answer, avoid highly sensitive material.

A safer way to begin

Image upload is an optional clue, not a requirement. Start with material that contains no name, contact details or another person's privacy, then decide whether more personal material is appropriate.
